From 1 December 2026, Australia's Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) will replace the current Workplace Exposure Standards (WES). Councils and local government authorities should review the airborne contaminants relevant to their operations and whether the changes affect their existing exposure assessments and controls.
Detect. Identify potential exposures across depots and workshops, fleet maintenance, waste operations, road and civil works, parks and gardens, and water and sewer operations. JTA's councils and LGAs WEL guidance helps you explore relevant activities, airborne hazards and assessment options.
Protect. Use the assessment findings to review controls such as extraction, ventilation, dust suppression, work practices and respiratory protection. Plan any further monitoring needed to check that controls remain effective as tasks, equipment and site conditions change.

Where contamination from suspected drug manufacture is a concern, JTA's meth lab assessments can help establish site conditions and guide the next steps. Our occupational hygienists provide assessment and advice before remediation, and independent post-remediation assessment to help verify the outcome.
Transfer stations, landfills and waste-handling facilities can present risks from dust, vehicle emissions, noise, hazardous materials and potentially contaminated waste. JTA can assist with risk assessments, air monitoring, noise assessments and management systems relevant to these operations.
